Julie Brandwein, MSPT, LMT began her study of Iyengar Yoga while a student of massage at the Swedish Institute of Massage in 1990. Persistent and unresolved dance injuries led her to her first Iyengar Yoga class with Kevin Gardiner. The intelligence and thoughtful precision of Iyengar yoga spoke to her in a way that nothing else up to this point had; giving her an understanding of how to work with herbody to create freedom and health. She began an intensive study at The Iyengar Yoga Institute in NYC, studying primarily with Mary Dunn, Kevin Gardiner and Robin Janis, including teacher training with Mary Dunn, and Anna Golfinapoulus Additionally she studied with Patricia Walden and Karin Stephan in Cambridge Mass. She also assisted Robin Janis in her beginner classes.
Julie began teaching yoga in 1995, while also maintaining a private practice in bodywork. In 2000 she graduated with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Columbia University. In 2006 she earned certification from Polestar Pilates in Pilates for Rehab Professionals.Julie combines her knowledge, curiosity, and love of the body and its journey through movement in her practice both as a yoga instructor and a body therapist. She finds continual inspiration from her students and clients and the unique stories that are expressed through the body. She appreciates the ability of yoga to synthesize and integrate these stories into one cohesive piece. Her classes aim to help students align and inhabit their body with compassion and humor.
